CeBIT (Centrum der Büro- und Informationstechnik; German for "Centre of Office and Information technology") is the world's largest computer expo. It is held each spring on the fairground in Hanover, Germany, and is a barometer of the state of the art in information technology. It has an exhibition area of roughly 450,000 m² (~ 5 million ft²) and up to 700,000 visitors. CeBIT is the world's largest trade fair showcasing digital IT and telecommunications solutions for home and work environments. The key target groups are users from industry, the wholesale/retail sector, skilled trades, banks, the services sector, government agencies, science and all users passionate about technology. CeBIT offers an international platform for comparing notes on current industry trends, networking, and product presentations. Deutsche Messe AG has organized CeBIT in Hannover each spring since 1986. With more than 6,260 exhibitors and over 430,000 visitors in 2006, CeBIT has cemented its reputation as the world’s largest Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) fair. In 2006, over 520 companies from 31 European countries (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Canada, Chile, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland) submitted more than 750 profiles describing technologies they were offering or seeking. Over the 5 days of the brokerage event, approximately 1,100 meetings took place. This year, more than 150 Russian exhibitors will be presenting their innovations on an exhibition area of 5,500 sqm, including leading companies such as Kaspersky Lab., Inkotex, and Russoft. The German Federal Ministry of Economics and the Russian Ministry of Communications will be supporting the partnership. A "Russian tour" will present the partner country's key IT strengths. The Russian presentation is divided into four display categories: Communications, Business Processes, Banking & Finance and Digital Equipment & Systems. CeBIT is the world's leading marketplace for the ICT sector. It provides digital solutions for users from throughout the world, whether company leaders, buyers, SMEs or large-scale enterprises. The spectrum of offerings ranges from business software and equipment to home and office communication solutions and digital lifestyle. In 2007, around 6,000 exhibitors are expected from some 70 countries.
