Common Features in Modern IP PBX Solutions-Part 2

by Hossam Amin

Modern IP PBX systems have revolutionized the number of telecommunication options available to businesses, making possible features that were unimaginable before. For example, an IP PBX offers multiple access points to its users, thereby allowing them to stay connected to their company’s phone system while on a business trip, in a branch office, or even at home. Thanks to Voice over IP (VoIP) technology, on which an IP PBX runs, a company employee can always stay connected to the office from any location in the world where there’s a high-speed internet connection.

If traditional PBX systems provided call forking and call hunting features, modern IP PBX solutions have certainly enriched them. From priority ringing to automatic call distribution (ACD), an IP PBX has it all. Using the web interface of an IP PBX, one can easily create a group of users and define exactly how incoming calls to this group are processed. Moreover, modifying a group, by adding or removing members, is as straight forward as creating it, making the process of managing call forking and call hunting in an IP PBX easier and smoother than ever before.

Another feature enhanced by IP PBX solutions is call forwarding. Not only can a user of an IP PBX specify a single forwarding number, it is also possible to specify multiple forwarding numbers at different dates and times. Again, thanks to web-based access available to all users of an IP PBX, the management of call forwarding is a walk in the park. In fact, IP PBX solutions have essentially taken this feature to the next level.

If IP PBX solutions run on an IP network, then perhaps one might contemplate unifying them with other services that run on the same network. As a matter of fact, it is common now to have unified communications that involve IP PBX systems. As an example, modern IP PBX systems support unified voice messaging, allowing IP PBX users to access their voice mail from their email accounts in addition to their telephones. This means that if IP PBX users make any changes to their voice mail box using one method, these changes are reflected in the other.
