With the advent of the internet and the advancement of Voice over IP (VoIP) telecommunications, IP PBX solutions have become a popular choice among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). With affordability, ease of installation, and simplicity to manage, IP PBX solutions have proven to be the smart way to go. However, there is no doubt that a major attraction to SMEs, in modern IP PBX solutions, is the vast amount of features they offer. In fact, a modern IP PBX telecommunication system offers features that have never been possible before. An IP PBX permits free communication between offices belonging to a multi-branch company, even if they are located in different parts of the world. Because telephone devices connected to an IP PBX use VoIP technology, it does not matter where they are located in the world, as long as they are accessible through a public IP address. In other words, an IP PBX directs calls to devices based on their URLs. Another common feature modern IP PBX solutions offer is web-based administration. The network administrator of an IP PBX can manage a company’s phone system from a web browser using graphical navigation components that are intuitive and easy to use. Moving, adding, and changing users, in an IP PBX, takes only a few minutes, and therefore frees up time for other work in the company. In addition, an IP PBX with a web interface allows the administrator to monitor call activity in real time and keep track of call logs, which help in diagnosing any problems or issues that may arise. Moreover, modern IP PBX systems include an interactive voice response (IVR) component, which can direct incoming external calls to internal users with telephone extensions. This auto attendant behaves like a normal user whose main task is forwarding calls to others in the IP PBX system. Advanced IVRs are usually customizable giving the owner of an IP PBX the freedom of configuring it according to business needs.
